Wil has been in show business for nearly 50 years. His first professional experience was at CBS Records in 1963. “When I started in this business there was only one (1) switch, ….. on!”

If you ask Wil what his greatest accomplishment is, he would respond, “ My strength is in my team”. Currently the studios of Long Island Recording serve the music and show business community for the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky. Wil has assembled the most professional staff of musicians, photographers, engineers, camera operators, producers and directors in the region and they all serve as either instructors or guest speakers for the school.

Going forward…. “I already have in place the next generation of professionals to guide the school into the future.”

Doc Messina

Frank “Doc” Messina
Doctoral Degree in Education –

Doctor Frank Messina has a music career that spans more than 50 years. He has a recognized background in formal education (Fayette County School Board). During his tenure “Doc” had a concurrent career in music performance and TV broadcast. His experience is invaluable as a member of the Board of Trustees.

James Michael Cooley
Although Mike Cooley has a traditional band background (band and choir director for state school system), his strength as always been studio and live performance. Besides being an accomplished educator and performer, Mike has dedicated years of volunteer service to the Simple Dreams Foundation. The Board of Trustees is proud to have James Michael Cooley as a member.

Keith Caudill

Keith Caudill

Keith Caudill is the Director of the Mountain Arts Center. He has been a leader in the music industry in Eastern Kentucky for over 30 years. Keith co-founded and still performs with the Kentucky Opry. His work with those organizations (MAC and KO) has helped hundreds of young performers learn and grow. As a pianist, businessman, innovator and performer, Keith is still making an impact on the music scene.

Terrance “Tee Dee” Young has the distinct honor of having the longest running band in Kentucky. For over 30 years he has been entertaining folks throughout Kentucky. His generosity of spirit has served him well as he is one of the most charitable entertainers in the region. Tee Dee can often be seen helping many organizations throughout the Commonwealth.

Tee Dee is a long time friend of The Lexington School for Recording Arts and LIR Studios.

Amber Sloan-Barlow

Vice President
of the Lexington School for Recording Arts.
Amber has an orchestral background, twelve years organized music training that culminated with a BA in Music Business / Sound Production. She is also Certified Master Engineer and an accomplished producer. Amber’s superior organizational skills along with the music credentials make her the logical choice as VP for the school. Amber is uniquely qualified to teach Theory, Audio Engineering, Mastering, Introduction to Waves Software, Elements of production and scoring and charting.

Michael Thomas

An accomplished guitarist, Michael has been playing and producing music for nearly 35 years. He is a Master Audio Engineer with a strong background in composition. Michael also has a BA in Business and Computer Science. Multi faceted, Michael teaches several courses. As Head of Studio Production his strong suit is obvious. It should be noted that his guitar skills are much admired.

Frank “Doc” Messina

Although Doc is a terrific musician in his own right (he plays piano / guitar and has been a choir director in the public school system), he has a strong background in television production. As the senior member of the faculty, he brings 50 years of experience to both the Board of Trustees and students that attend our facility. We are fortunate to have Doc as a mentor and teacher in our school.

Steve Nall – Steve (guitarist /bassist) has been in the music business for over twenty years. He has been the head engineer for Long Island recording for 15 years. As the most experienced audio engineer in the region, Steve brings unsurpassed understanding and knowledge to his students.

Carolyn Austin

Carolyn Austin – Carolyn, is the Media Director for LIR Records. As a real world videographer /photographer for the label, she often includes her students in current projects. This is a huge advantage for her students, giving them real life experiences in the art of music video production.

Erin Cheeks
Instructor
Erin is an all around Jack of All Trades. Musician, voice coach, audio engineer, master engineer and music software specialist. As well as all her other responsibilities, Erin holds monthly software seminars for the students.

Patrick Hairston

Patrick is the Lighting Director for LIR Productions, a professional DJ, certified master engineer, cameraman and video editor. As physical plant director, Patrick is responsible for stage sets, lighting rigs, scaffold placement for video and just about any movement of large, heavy equipment. He instructs in several areas, as well.

Eric is our go–to–guy for technical directing of most broadcast and video projects. Although he specializes in broadcast production/video editing he can be found floor directing on the sound stage for most of the student’s in-house video projects. Eric plays bass and also is a certified engineer.

Willy is a drummer with national touring experience. He has a diverse set of unique skills … stage production and management, musician, camera operator, videologist, editor, lighting and electrical safety instructor to name a few. His dedication to excellence along with his patience with students makes him an extremely valuable asset for LSRA.
