The Lexington School for Recording Arts

"It's important to recognize music
and the recording of music, as an art."

Welcome to the Lexington School for Recording Arts. This may be the most unique school in the region for a variety of reasons. First and foremost is our approach to teaching. Our diverse classes include in-depth instruction in audio, video, theory, and business. What makes us stand out is “not what we teach, but how we teach it.” After all we are not just teaching science, music, art and business…. “We are teaching students!”

Audio Engineering

AE is the foundational course. It is an extensive expedition into the science of sound. The journey starts in an analog lab. All sound is analog! We can see digits but we cannot hear them. The moment you press play on a CD or computer you hear analog sound. What comes out of an iPod ear bud, headphone or a speaker, is an analog wave.

Once students successfully understand the basic principals of analog, they move into a digital lab. It is here where they put the primary fundamental principals of sound to work in a modern digital environment. This is a hands-on, project-based module.

The next destination is the live recording room, where the many critical aspects of recording are dealt with extensively. This is also where the preparation for the certification exam takes place.

The final objective is the actual final exam. This test is administered in “Control Room A”, the nerve center of a real world, state of the art recording facility.
